Decentraland Announces Annual Art Week with a Fresh Theme

Decentraland has officially unveiled the dates for its much-anticipated Art Week, set to take place from September 24 to September 27, 2025. This year’s event will revolve around the theme “TOUCH GRASS,” inviting participants to engage with a vibrant array of artistic installations, workshops, and interactive experiences presented by more than thirty prominent artists. The festival aims to transcend the overwhelming aspects of digital existence, focusing on the future of virtual environments and humanity’s connection to them. Bay Backner, the Head Producer of Art Week at the Decentraland Foundation, remarked, “Decentraland Art Week illustrates how artists are recognizing virtual worlds as a valuable extension of their creative practice, encouraging newcomers to take the leap. This year’s roster, featuring renowned artists like Sara Shakeel and Johanna Jaskowska, highlights the importance of this transition.” The festival, under the guiding theme TOUCH GRASS, seeks to reimagine the role of digital art in enriching our lives in a world that aspires to be both human-centered and idealistic.

Key Highlights of the Programming

The 2025 Decentraland Art Week offers a comprehensive exploration of creativity within three-dimensional spaces. The festival not only showcases large-scale immersive artworks but also provides educational programming designed to inspire and empower creators of all experience levels. The first day will introduce attendees to the possibilities of virtual worlds and guide them on how to get started with creation in Decentraland. The second day will focus on strategies for artists to gain visibility and be selected for virtual and mixed-reality exhibitions. Day three will delve into the realm of artificial intelligence, featuring collaborations with partners such as CSM, ImagineArt, and Sloyd, who will demonstrate innovative tools that allow anyone to create 3D artworks suitable for gaming. Finally, the festival will conclude on day four with a summary of essential workshops and a celebratory party marking the end of the event.

Collaboration with Digital Fashion Week

In a progressive move leading up to Art Week, Decentraland is teaming up with Digital Fashion Week (DFW) to explore the future of virtual exhibitions. On September 11 in New York (Shift Midtown) and September 18 in London (Epic Games), attendees can engage in experiences that blend real life with the digital realm. This includes innovative features such as an “inside-out” runway, projection-mapped showrooms, and interactive photo booths, where participants can try on new fashion designs from Decentraland created by Loreine Studio, Emilija Slavkova, Stephen Vineburg, and Right Direction. These fashion pieces will also be showcased during Art Week, reimagined as an immersive showroom accompanied by exclusive avatar Wearable giveaways.

Immersive Artistic Installations

Over 30 large-scale installations will be featured throughout Decentraland, many of which will turn previously underutilized spaces into vibrant cultural hubs. Notable pieces are set to remain active for a minimum of 12 months, ensuring their influence persists long after the event concludes. Some highlights include:

  • Sara Shakeel’s The Forgotten Sense: The celebrated artist, who enjoys a following of 1.5 million on Instagram and has collaborated with brands like Coach and Swarovski, presents a dazzling digital environment that reflects on the loss of touch and warmth in our lives.
  • Johanna Jaskowska’s Synthetic Rest: Known for her viral Beauty3000 AR filter and partnerships with global brands such as Adidas and Nike, Jaskowska offers visitors a tranquil yet eerie space that examines the intimacy between technology and humanity.
  • Amber Vittoria’s Where Her Thoughts Can Land: An artist recognized for her collaborations with World of Women, K-Swiss, and L’Oréal, Vittoria transforms Decentraland into a playful landscape filled with monumental sculptures that explore femininity and form.
  • Clara Bacou’s Bloomfang: Having created visuals for major artists like Coldplay and Elton John, Bacou’s work introduces an imaginative creature that symbolizes a rebellion against sterile digital environments, bringing her signature fantastical style to Decentraland.
  • Micah Alhadeff’s BloomSynth: This digital artist, whose works have been showcased at prestigious venues, imagines a desolate landscape where two individuals congregate around a valuable relic from a bygone future, evoking nostalgia and memory through technology.

Art Week is scheduled to occur from September 24 to September 27 within Decentraland. Attendees can prepare by downloading Decentraland on their desktop. After completing the installation, users will be able to log in, customize their avatars, and explore the offerings of Art Week. Details regarding the full schedule and installation can be found on Decentraland’s official website.
