Decentraland to Host Groundbreaking Metaverse Festival
Virtual blockchain-based platform Decentraland is set to launch the inaugural multi-day festival within the metaverse, a digital realm characterized by permanent, shared 3D environments. Named the ‘Metaverse Festival,’ this event will span four days and showcase over 80 prominent artists and celebrities across five different stages. Featured performers include Deadmau5, RAC, 3LAU, Nina Nesbitt, Alison Wonderland, and Aluna from AlunaGeorge. Notably, the festival will also feature Paris Hilton, whose in-game avatar was crafted by the avatar technology firm Genies.
Unique Features and Experiences Await Attendees
In addition to musical performances, the Metaverse Festival will present various attractions such as a funfair, games, merchandise stands, a VIP lounge, relaxation areas, and a psychedelic sculpture garden. A particularly innovative addition is the introduction of virtual portable toilets—something festival organizers believe is a necessity, even in the metaverse. Sam Hamilton, the festival coordinator, emphasized that “every festival needs portable toilets – even in the metaverse.” He further explained that these are not just ordinary facilities; each toilet offers a unique experience, some enjoyable and others quite the opposite.
Evolution: The Central Theme of the Festival
Festival attendees eager to experience the virtual toilets will need to wait in line, as the experiences differ with each visit. Hamilton noted, “No two Dump ‘N’ Pump experiences are the same.” The overarching theme of the Metaverse Festival is Evolution, which will be illustrated throughout the four days. The festival will evolve from Water on the first day to Earth, then Space, and finally culminate in the Metaverse. The main Evolution stage, sponsored by Bitcoin trading platform Kraken, will reflect this transformation, alongside support from Heineken and the crypto-exclusive fund Metapurse.
Infinite Surprises Await Participants
Hamilton described this thematic journey as a representation of human evolution, symbolizing the transition from water to land, venturing into space, and ultimately exploring the metaverse. He added that the festival lineup will continue to expand, showcasing the unpredictable nature of the metaverse, where surprises await at every turn. The event is set to run from October 21 to October 24 and can be accessed via the festival’s homepage or Decentraland Events page.
Roblox to Host Electric Daisy Carnival in the Metaverse
In related news, Roblox and event organizer Insomniac have announced plans to bring one of the globe’s largest electronic music festivals, Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), into the metaverse. This virtual experience will occur simultaneously with the live event in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring streamed performances on Roblox that mirror the real-life festival. Additionally, artists will engage with fans in Roblox after their live sets through virtual meet-and-greets.
Interactive Fun and Rewards for Attendees
The festival aims to recreate the vibrant atmosphere of EDC, complete with iconic stages and interactive features like dance battles. Participants will also have opportunities to win both real and virtual merchandise. The EDC metaverse event is scheduled from October 22 to October 25, with the virtual space opening its doors on October 19. This announcement comes shortly after Facebook revealed plans to recruit 10,000 personnel to develop their vision of a metaverse, highlighting the intensifying competition to shape the next generation of the internet.
